Thoughts
CH.1 We found it interesting that Sam called the british lobsterbacks, even though he himself was wearing red. We also thought it was strange that his father was on the side of the british and Sam wasn't so they were fighting a lot about war.
CH.2 Sam ran away with the brown bess(gun as big as tim) to fight in the war. Their father told them not to use the new unbroken basket for some reason. we also learned that Old Pru is Sam's cow.
CH. 3. Sam's family owns a tavern so they can store all of their beer to sell. Sams father was hiding a tory paper because it was illegal to have. Our group infered that tory means people who supports the king of England
CH. 4
Tim went out to chop wood for father. Then Tim saw an officer go into the tavern. Tim thought he was getting a mug of beer, but when he went back to the tavern the officer was cursing there father for "not telling the truth" about the brown bess, so the officer sliced his cheek. Tim ran and found Sam at Tom Warrups house sleeping with the brown bess. Sam followed Tim to the tavern and they found father with dried blood on his cheek. Then Sam ran away into the woods. We had an inference about why Sam left, we think that Sam ran away because he knew the officer was there but he didn't know if the officer was there anymore so he ran away.
CH.5-7.
Sam had to go to war to fight. Mr. Heron gave a letter to Tim so he could deliver it to Mr. Burr,in Fairfield. Which is very far to walk. Then Betsy fought tim for the letter. We infer that Mr. Heron is very mean. mother and father were fight because mother wanted to write back but they kept arguing. We also infer that betsy is mean because she crumpled up the letter that was suppose to be sent to Mr.Burr.
CH.8
Mr platt thinks the cow-boys are just cattle theifs and that they would sell the cattle to the lobsterbacks.they stooped walking home for the night, so they stayed at thier cousin's house for the night. Tim and Father also went to Haystraw bay and father talked to Mr.Bogarus.
CH.9
Father and tim were on thier way home. All of a sudden tim was very worried because he does not know where father is. He thinks the cowboys took him. Then Tim ran off to find his father and rescue him.Tim tricked the cowboys to go away and leave him alone. I infer that tim is very clever because he tricked the cowboys. How old is Tim? We think Tim is around 13 years old.
CH.10
Father has not come back yet. The british came to Redding and attacked all of the rebels even the young Jerry Sanford. Some people in our group think that a rebel is dead because he got shot in the stomach but some people think that he will still be alive.
CH.11
The doctor helped the wounded man and gave him food and rum. Then he told them his story. When Tim came back downstairs the next morning, the continentials came into the pub and they told them how the war was going. Then they went to the church because nobody is aloud to fight in church because it was a sin. Then they figured out Dan Starr was killed and father was in prison. When they went back to the pub Sam was there and started to hug mother. I wonder if Sam will die before his enlistment ends. He probably will considering the title is my brother Sam is dead.
ch 12-14
Father was captured by the british and he was in prison for about two months and then the british killed father and tims best friend, Jerry Sanford. sam was also captured by the rtebels because he was acused of being a cattle theif. So the rebels decided they were going kill Sam. So Tim tried to save Sam but he decided he didn't want to take the risk. So the rebels shoot Sam with a Musket and died. Tim and mother were devastated.
Sum it up
So in the end, Tim and his mother moved to pennsylvania and built a new tavern to sell differnt types of drinks, food and a place to sleep. It was a bad time for the Meeker family because many family members and close friends died. There was alot of conflict in the book because many britsh and rebels scarred many people for life. Even the Meeker family had lots of conflict during the story.
